Posted by: Dave Latham, on: Wednesday, February 22, 2012

Having just completed the second part of an RYA Day Skipper training course in the Solent in February I have to say what a refreshing experience it was, with clear skies and fresh winds the sailing was on a par with that experienced here in Gibraltar nearly all year round, if maybe a tad colder?? Our UK adventures took us from Hamble to Cowes, Ocean Village Southampton, Portsmouth and Port Solent finishing back in Port Hamble. With successful Day Skipper certs awarded the well found Beneteau Oceanis 37 was returned to Fairview yacht charters then a flight back to Gibraltar. For all your RYA training needs in Gibraltar or the Uk please read more here

UK Sailmaker Gibraltar- New Sailmaking machine

Posted by: Dave Latham, on: Friday, January 20, 2012

UK Halsey sails manager Andy Longarela, has recently made a massive investment to maintain his reputation and sail making ability as the leading sail maker and sail service and repair center of excellence in Andalucia. His new investment comes in the form of "The Beast", a DÜRKOOP ADLER 366 sailmakers sewing machine, now fully installed and commissioned in the UK Halsey sail loft in Torremolinos, Malaga, Spain. This machine is recognised as the ultimate sewing machine currently available, made in Germany it out powers all other sailmakers sewing machines, it is capable of powering its needle through 20mm of Dacron, Kevlar or leather, with its adjustable speed, pitch and zig zag action it can take on the largest sails you can imagine, described by the German manufacturer as the Porsche of sewing machines, it is without doubt the strongest machine ever produced.
This new addition to the lofts capability has greatly increased the sailrepair and new sail service we continue to offer in Gibraltar, with 24 hour turn around for visiting yachts who urgently need to continue sailing onwards or a weekly service for longer stay yachtsmen. We are also continuing to offer on site repairs for sails and canvas work in our repair center in Marina Bay, please call Dave on 0034664671268 or contact us via email for all your sail requirements..... "The Beast" is hungry.

Sailing Gibraltar, II campeonato interclubs del estrecho

Posted by: Dave Latham, on: Monday, January 16, 2012

Saladillo Yacht Club, Algeciras hosted this weekends second race in the interclub series, setting a 2 lap course off the beach at Gitares, Gibraltar bay in a freshening westerly breeze. Noticia II were the first to cross the start line, unfortunately for them a bit too early and had to return to re-start, this left a clean gap for Seawolf and Luna VI to head for the first mark, these positions remained the same for the entire race with a close battle for third with Yogi's JOD35 Altarick. Next race is 25th February in La Linea, please contact us if you fancy sailing with the winning crew onboard Seawolf.
