This weekend saw the 6th Yacht Race in the Sotogrande Winter League. With very light airs the race was postponed for approximately 40 minutes until a westerly breeze filled in, giving the race committee the opportunity to lay the windward mark for the scheduled Windward/Leeward course. Seawolf made a great start crossing seconds after the gun, the 2 mile leg proved tricky, with shifting winds and many holes to avoid, the yachts that chose to sail inshore, were rewarded with cleaner air and a stiffer breeze.
4th round the mark, we had a lot of work to do on the next leg. A good hoist followed by a slick gybe soon had us back in the running. C flag was hoisted on the committee boat at the leeward mark, indicating the windward mark had been moved!! Once it was spotted well inshore we again made good progress around it then back to the finish.
Our final result was 5th, which all the crew should be very proud of on a day of shifting winds and fierce competition.
The next Yacht race is scheduled for the 24th May, training being on the 17/18th May. If you would like to join us for this, the last race in the Sotogrande Winter League, please contact us at

40 Knots of wind made today the ideal time to hoist the storm sails and practice some heavy weather sailing in Gibraltar Bay.
