Sotogrande Winter League 2008 Final Race

Posted by: Dave Latham, on: Monday, May 26, 2008
Saturday 24th May saw the final yacht race of the Sotogrande Winter League.
A strong breeze led to mixed choices of sail plans amongst the fleet, reefs, no reefs, number 1s to number 3s!!!
Seawolf opted for full main sail and number one, which proved to be the best choice, rounding the windward mark in second place. We held this position for the remainder of the race having another good beat and blisteringly fast final run to the finish.
This second place over the line, led to to our overall place in the 7 race series being raised to
fourth, a great result against stiff competition from the 21 Spanish yachts that campaigned the series.
Our next event in Sotogrande is there annual regatta held on the 14th to 17th August. If you would like to join us for this very popular event in the yachting calendar please contact us.

Gibraltar Sailing School Race Training

This weekend saw the penultimate training programme for the team of 9 sailors itching to take part in the final yacht Race of the Sotogrande winter league to be held on Saturday the 24rd of May.
With winds from 10 to 35 knots, Gibraltar Bay turned out to be the perfect location to fine tune the many set manoeuvres essential for the forthcoming Sailing event.
Short windward/leeward courses and wild spinnaker legs kept the whole crew on there toes all weekend.

Please contact us if you would like to join us on one of our forthcoming sailing regattas, sail training weekends or enrol on any RYA Sailing Courses.

Charter Haus and Atlantic Charters joined forces and sailed across the Straits of Gibraltar to enjoy a long weekend enjoying the cultural delights of Northern Africa.

First stopping in Ceuta, the Spanish enclave due south of Gibraltar, then it was around to Marina Smir and a Taxi ride(never to be forgotten) to the Blue City of Chefchaun.

During our recent cruise to the Portuguese Algarve coast, we called at the Spanish port of Barbate, where we were treated to the rare sight of huge Tuna fish being landed on to factory ships bound for the far East.
