Algeciras to Ceuta/ Sailing Gibraltar

Posted by: Dave Latham, on: Sunday, July 12, 2009
This weekend saw the 4th Algeciras to Ceuta 2 handed race, with light airs and strong tides, the sailing across the straits of Gibraltar proved to be the make or break on the overall race strategy. This along with dying breeze once in the bay of Ceuta led to nailbiting close racing.
Seawolf crossed the line first with a lead of over 8 minutes on the next yacht Queen Veli, however the corrected time gave Queen Veli victory with Seawolf second by a margin of only 8 seconds, followed by Tucana in third place. Of the 18 boats that made the start only 11 completed the course to Ceuta.

Algeciras Regatta 2009/ Sailing Gibraltar

Seawolf and her new novice crew enjoyed another great weekends sailing in the Bay of Gibraltar, taking part in the annual Algeciras Regatta. Saturdays race took the fleet of 21 yachts west into the straits of Gibraltar towards Tarifa then back to the finish off Algeciras Marina. Making blistering upwind speed followed by an adrenalin filled kite leg back, Seawolf took victory by over 14 minutes from probably the most respected Beneteau 40.7 in the area "Noticia 2".
Sundays windward/leeward course also blessed us with a fresh breeze, taking victory again by 4 minutes corrected, giving us the pleasure of taking 1st place in class and overall winners of the regatta. Congratulations to all on board.
