Race Training Weeks Gibraltar
The next scheduled race training week is commencing on the 14th June 2010
We will also be training prior to most of the mayor Spanish race events 2010
Our RACE training weeks come in 4 categories:
Cat 1: Start Racing, Novice race crew
Cat 2: Advanced crew
Cat 3: Race Skipper
Cat 4: Race Experience
CAT 1:
START Racing
This is a purpose built program to introduce the novice sailor to the world of yacht racing. Whilst starting with the basics of Competent Crew (if necessary), this relaxed course is aimed to teach you the tasks and skills required to enable you to step aboard future race boats armed with both knowledge and confidence.
During the week you will be introduced to:
- Set up of a race boat
- The language of racing
- Specific jobs onboard
- Where you fit within the team
- Sail trim
- Sail changing/handling
- Spinnaker handling and packing
- The importance of communication
- Sailing a race course without any pressure
Amongst other valuable skills of race craft.

Price list:
£500.00 per person per week/5 days.
This includes:
- Accommodation on board
- All food on board/ expect to eat ashore at least twice
- Use of foul weather gear & lifejackets.
- All mooring fees/fuel other boat expenses
- Group bookings of 5 or more deduct 15%.

CAT 2:
Advanced Crew
The advanced crew course is aimed at people with moderate race experience who wish to further their skills, knowledge and understanding of specific jobs on board. The course will break down the yacht in to specific areas and you will be given training in management of each area. Topics covered will include:
- Hoists, drops and gybes from the bow
- Hoists, drops and gybes from the cockpit
- Rail crew management
- Halyard management
- Sail change management (peeling)
- Sail trim
- Intense spinnaker handling

Price list:
£500.00 per person per week/5 days.
This includes:
- Accommodation on board
- All food on board/ expect to eat ashore at least twice
- Use of foul weather gear & lifejackets.
- All mooring fees/fuel other boat expenses
- Group bookings of 5 or more deduct 15%.

CAT 3:
Yachtmaster to Race Skipper
This week of training is aimed at recently qualified yachtmaster's/coastal skippers and cruising sailors looking to advance there racing skills from advanced crew to Skipper. Previous experience of racing is required along with good seamanship and rope handling is essential. During the week you will be given full training and hands on practice of all tasks performed on a modern race yacht.

The week will be structured to introduce you to:
- Crew management
- Boat set up/weight distribution
- Wind awareness
- Boat speed
- Intense spinnaker handling
- Leeward/windward/float and letter box drops
- De powering/re powering the rig
- Trimming for different sea states
- Reading telltales
- Basic racing rules/tactics
- Amongst other skills required to make a good race skipper

Cat 4:
Race Experience
Race experience courses are aimed at people with some race yacht experience who want to further there knowledge and take part in a high profile offshore or round the cans regatta without the hassle or expense of campaigning a private yacht.

All courses vary dependent on the event targeted but will run along the theme of :
- 2/3 days race training/accommodation on board
- Delivery/ training to event location
- Boat preparation
- Weather course and tactics briefs
- Entry to and race event
- Return delivery to Gibraltar
Price list:
Price will vary dependent on duration of the course but will be calculated at approximately £110.00 per person per day.
This will include:
- Accommodation on board
- All food on board/ expect to eat ashore at least twice
- Use of foul weather gear & lifejackets.
- All mooring fees/fuel other boat expenses
- All race entry fees
- Cleaning of hull prior to course
- Group bookings of 5 or more deduct 15%.
- Max 8 crew + skipper.
