XV Gibraltar Regatta 2011
2 Days yacht racing over the weekend 30th/31st July saw 3 fleets of yachts competing in the bay of Gibraltar, Victory class, Open class and RI Crucero class.
Saturdays opening around the Rock race started promptly at midday, Bongani, Seawolf (Ibex Insurance) and Noticia 2 set the pace as the leading trio to first sail round Europa point, the freshening South Westerly breeze hitting 35 knots on the return leg.
Seawolf lead from Noticia second time round Europe and victory looked guaranteed!! However as the wind died passing the detached mole the 3 lead yachts found themselves becalmed as the rest of the fleet closed the gap with following wind.
Final positions were:
- Amor Fati RCM Benalmadena
- Kromi RCM Benalmadena
- Pillaban CN Salidillo
Sundays race start was delayed due to very light winds, finally kicking off after 1pm.
This time Seawolf and Noticia2 had another tactical battle, taking first and second place, with Vikingo and Amor Fati in third and fourth.
Combined results for the weekend:
- Amor Fati
- Vikingo
- Kromi
